# HostHatch

> Cheap fixed-size virtual servers on HostHatch's own hardware in up to 16 locations, sold by the month with 1–20 TB of transfer and an unusually complete new REST API for the price.

**Short answer:** One always-on personal agent (2 vCPU / 4 GiB / 20 GiB) costs about $6.00 a month here, the 4th cheapest of the 24 providers that run it as described. The AI model adds $7.30 to $488.07 a month on top, depending on the model: MiniMax M3.1 Flash at the low end, $204.19 or more on a frontier model such as Claude Opus 5.5, up to GPT-6 Astra. That assumes 144 million tokens a month (30 requests a day × 160k tokens × 30 days, our assumption) at the median zero-retention price of each model. Fits well: One always-on personal agent, Discord or Slack bot, n8n instance or remote MCP server that must keep a process and a public address.

HostHatch sells two products: Compute VMs and Storage VMs. The compute line is ten fixed plans from NVMe 2 GB (1 core / 2 GB / 10 GB, $4 a month) to NVMe 96 GB (16 cores / 96 GB / 250 GB, $69 a month), each with a public IPv4, a routed /64 of IPv6 and 1–20 TB of monthly transfer. The storage line is eight plans from 1 TB to 10 TB of RAID-10 HDD, $5–$38 a month.
It is a plain virtual server, not a sandbox API. You get root, your own kernel, an ISO installer and a public address; you run the operating system, the updates, the firewall rules inside the guest and any TLS. HostHatch's own pages describe the machines as VMs and let you boot your own ISO 'just like you would on a bare-metal or a physical server'; the hypervisor is not named on the site.
The billing unit is a monthly plan. The terms invoice monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually, there is no hourly or per-second meter, and a powered-off server keeps billing until the paid term ends. The cheapest entry is $4 a month; there is no free tier and no trial.
The surprise is the control surface. A new API at console.hosthatch.com documents projects, roles, servers, power actions, snapshots, firewalls, ISOs, SSH keys and orders, with an OpenAPI document, read-only keys and an llms.txt. The panel (Peregrine) adds a VNC and serial console. There is no official CLI, SDK or MCP server, and cloud-init user data is not available yet.

**Who it is for:** Readers who want one cheap, always-on Linux box with a lot of transfer, in Europe, North America or Asia, and who are comfortable with a terminal and with running their own backups. A good fit for a personal agent, a Discord or Slack bot, n8n, an MCP server or a storage box. A poor fit for per-task sandboxes, anyone who needs a written uptime promise, managed backups or a no-terminal install.

**Isolation:** A VPS (virtual private server), not a sandbox built for agents. A full virtual machine with its own kernel and disk, root access and a public IPv4. You can install any of the Linux templates or boot your own ISO, enable a routed /64 of IPv6 and join a private VLAN with other servers in the same location. HostHatch never names the hypervisor; the ISO install and own-kernel wording show a full VM rather than a container. The cheapest three plans (2, 4 and 8 GB) are labelled 'fair share' CPU, and the 12 GB plan and above mix dedicated and fair-shared cores, so a sustained CPU-heavy workload is not buying dedicated cores at the entry price.

**Sizes and regions:** Ten fixed compute plans: 1–16 AMD EPYC cores, 2–96 GB DDR4, 10–250 GB NVMe and 1–20 TB of transfer, $4–$69 a month. CPU and memory cannot be chosen independently; an upgrade moves the server to another plan, optionally growing the disk, and a reboot applies it. The separate storage line reaches 10 TB of HDD with 1–2 cores and 1–2 GB of RAM. No GPU plan. HostHatch advertises 16 locations on its product and company pages, its documentation matrix lists 14, and its status page monitors 13 — see the caveat.

## How it charges

- model: A prepaid monthly plan per server. The terms allow monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual invoicing, and the product page quotes every plan per month.
- meter: A flat price per plan per month. There is no hourly or per-second meter on the standard product, so a ten-minute task costs a whole plan unless it shares one with other work.
- stopped: A stopped server keeps billing. The contract is a term that renews until cancelled, and powering off is an action on the server rather than a change to the subscription. The disk and its files survive the stop.
- planFee: The plan price is the whole charge for the machine. The primary IPv4, IPv6, private networking, snapshots and the panel are not separately priced in public. Extra IPv4 addresses are charged per order but their current price is only visible in the checkout.
- minimum: One month of NVMe 2 GB at $4.00. There is no free tier and no starting credit; the first invoice is paid before the server is provisioned, and the exit is a 7-day money-back guarantee that requires a fault on HostHatch's side.

One prepaid monthly plan per fixed-size VM: the price is quoted per month, the terms invoice monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually, and a powered-off server keeps billing until the paid term ends. There is no hourly or per-second meter.
- Prices are HostHatch's own USD list on hosthatch.com/products, read fresh on 2026-11-04 twice (TinyFish and Context). Every compute price is shown as 'from $X.00 / month' with no annual qualifier, and the homepage says 'Our smallest plan costs $4 per month'. The terms say HostHatch invoices 'monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually', so monthly billing exists. What is not public is the price of each longer cycle: the order form is behind cloud.hosthatch.com's login. If the $4-$69 figures are annual-equivalent prices, a monthly-billed server costs more than this card shows; treat the card as the published monthly list price, not a verified checkout total.
- No hourly or per-second rate is documented anywhere: the product page sells monthly plans, the API's product object carries `billing_cycles` such as monthly, quarterly and annually, and the terms invoice by period. A ten-minute task therefore costs a whole month unless it shares one plan with other tasks.
- A powered-off server keeps billing: the contract is a term that renews until cancelled, and cancellation with `end_of_term` runs the server 'until the end of the period you paid for'. Powering off is an action on the server, not a change to the subscription. Workload C's 640 stopped hours therefore cost the same as running hours.
- The card uses `monthlyPlans` rather than `billedWhileStopped`: the whole-month charge already covers stopped hours, and setting both would double-count the catch in the engine. `minimumPerRun`, `wholeHours` and `perMachine` do not apply because there is no hourly meter, no per-run floor and no separate per-server fee; the monthly plan is itself the minimum.
- The 10 compute plans are 1-16 AMD EPYC cores, 2-96 GB DDR4, 10-250 GB NVMe and 1-20 TB of bandwidth. Only the 12 GB plan and larger carry any dedicated cores; the 2, 4 and 8 GB plans are labelled '( fair share )'.
- Fixed shapes only: CPU and memory cannot be chosen independently, and an upgrade moves the server to another plan. The API's upgrade call can also grow the disk (`upgrade_disk`), and a reboot applies the new plan; there is no live resize.
- Storage VMs are a separate product line: 1-10 TB of RAID-10 HDD with 1-2 vCPU and 1-2 GB RAM, $5-$38 a month, advertised in 8 locations but listed in only 4 in the site data (Amsterdam, Stockholm, Los Angeles, Chicago). They are not in this card because A, B and C fit compute plans, but they are what makes a 10 TB disk available.
- Extra IPv4 addresses are priced per order and are not in the card. The API documentation's example shows $2.00 a month for one extra address, but it labels its prices as illustrations, so that figure is not used as a rate.
- Bandwidth: the allowance counts inbound and outbound together, resets on the 1st of the calendar month regardless of the billing date, and overage is $4 per TB bought through support. Reaching the limit rate-limits the server to 5 Mbps rather than billing automatically.
- Snapshots are included with no published price or storage charge; the account has an unpublished snapshot limit. Backups are not sold on the current site, docs or API, although a 2023 'upcoming features' block promised them at 20% of the monthly VM cost. That block is stale and is not priced.
- Promotional plans sold through LowEndTalk are separate and much cheaper: in April 2026 a 4 GB / 50 GB NVMe plan was $35 a year and an 8 GB / 100 GB plan $65 a year, annual or three-year prepay only, limited stock, 10 working days to set up, no refunds and a slower support queue. They are not the standard product and are not in the card.
- Currency is USD. HostHatch bills in USD; VAT treatment is not stated on the product page. The company is HostHatch LLC in Tampa, Florida, and the terms are governed by United States law.

## Monthly cost for each preset workload

- A personal agent that stays on (Hermes, OpenClaw): $6.00
- A coding agent for one developer: $12.00
- A code interpreter inside your product: $6.00
- A browser agent for a small team: $42.00
- Self-hosted n8n for a small team: $6.00
- A Discord or Slack bot for one server: $4.00
- Claude Code for a team of five: $60.00
- A scraper that runs four times a day: $4.00
- Your own remote MCP server: $4.00
- A: 1,000 short tasks: $6.00
- B: one always-on box: $12.00
- C: three hours a day: $6.00

## Fits well

- One always-on personal agent, Discord or Slack bot, n8n instance or remote MCP server that must keep a process and a public address.
- A cheap development or build box where the work is bursty and a whole month is cheaper than metered hours.
- A large secondary copy of data: a 10 TB storage VM for $38 a month, or 20 TB of transfer on the $69 compute plan.
- Presence in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific from one account, with several EU countries among the advertised locations.
- Readers who want to script the account: a documented REST API with an OpenAPI document, read-only keys and project roles.

## Fits badly

- Per-task or per-session sandboxes: every task needs a monthly plan unless it shares one machine.
- Work that runs a few hours a day and then waits: a stopped server bills exactly like a running one.
- Anyone who needs a written uptime promise, a credit-backed SLA or a SOC 2 report.
- A team that needs single sign-on, an audit log or a hard spending cap.
- Managed backups or a detachable block volume: neither is sold on the current product, docs or API.
- A reader who does not want a terminal: there are no application templates, no one-click agent and no prompt API.

## Features

- **Isolation** (yes): Full VM, root, own ISO. A real virtual machine, not a container: you can install any of the Linux templates or boot your own ISO, enable a routed /64 of IPv6, join a private VLAN and reboot without touching anyone else. HostHatch's pages call them VMs and never name the hypervisor, here or in the docs. The 2, 4 and 8 GB plans are fair-share CPU, so the entry price does not buy dedicated cores. [source](https://hosthatch.com/features) [docs](https://hosthatch.com/features)
- **Sizes and regions** (partly): 16 cores / 96 GB; 16 sites claimed. Ten compute plans from 1 core / 2 GB / 10 GB to 16 cores / 96 GB / 250 GB, plus storage VMs to 10 TB. CPU and memory are fixed bundles, so there is no 3-core / 6 GB machine; an upgrade moves the server to another plan and a reboot applies it. The location count is inconsistent: the product page says 16, the documentation matrix lists 14 cities, and the status page monitors 13. Madrid, Milan and Warsaw appear in the site's product data but not in the docs; Seoul appears in the docs but not in the product data. [source](https://hosthatch.com/products) [docs](https://hosthatch.com/products)
- **Lifecycle** (partly): Stop = power off, still billed. The API has power-on, shutdown, power-off, reboot and reinstall actions. A stop keeps the disk and its files but loses RAM and every running process; there is no pause, hibernate or fork. The contract is a monthly or longer term that renews until cancelled, and a cancellation set to end_of_term keeps the server 'until the end of the period you paid for', so powering off never reduces the bill. [source](https://hosthatch.com/terms-of-service) [docs](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/actions/)
- **Snapshots and forks** (partly): Disk snapshots; no memory. A snapshot is a copy of the disk, taken on demand, kept until deleted and owned by the project rather than the server. It can be restored onto another server in the project, or used instead of an image when ordering a new one, which is the closest thing to a template. There is no memory snapshot and no live fork. The account's snapshot limit is not published, snapshots have no published price, and automated backups are not sold: a 2023 'upcoming features' block promised them but they appear nowhere in the current docs, API or panel. [source](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/snapshots/) [docs](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/snapshots/)
- **Storage** (partly): 10–250 GB NVMe; 10 TB storage VM. Compute plans carry 10–250 GB of local NVMe and storage plans 1–10 TB of RAID-10 HDD with 1–2 cores and 1–2 GB of RAM. Disk survives a stop and can grow on an upgrade, but it is tied to the server: there is no detachable block volume, no shared volume and no object storage. The 2023 features page still lists block storage as 'upcoming'; it does not exist in the current API or product list. Backups are not sold, so the copy that outlives the server is your own. [source](https://hosthatch.com/products) [docs](https://hosthatch.com/products)
- **Idle and waking** (yes): No idle stop or session cap. The only server states are running, stopped and suspended, and the only power actions are on, shutdown, power off, reboot and reinstall. No idle timer, automatic sleep, wake trigger or maximum session length appears in the API, the documentation or the panel, so an always-on Hermes agent, bot gateway or MCP server can run for the whole term. The trade is that idle hours bill like busy ones, and there is no provider-side scheduler: recurring work runs from cron inside the guest. [source](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/servers/) [docs](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/servers/)
- **Reaching it** (yes): IPv4, SSH, VNC, any port. Every server gets a primary public IPv4 and can enable a routed /64 of IPv6; SSH is a normal daemon, so any TCP or UDP service is reachable once the firewall allows it. The panel has a VNC and a serial console for when SSH fails. There is no private or tokenised URL, no provider tunnel and no managed reverse proxy — those are yours to build. [source](https://docs.hosthatch.com/networking/) [docs](https://docs.hosthatch.com/networking/)
- **Custom domains** (partly): Your DNS, your TLS. HostHatch does not sell DNS hosting or certificates for a VPS. The API manages reverse DNS only, so a custom domain means an A or AAAA record at your own DNS provider plus a reverse proxy and certificate inside the guest. The fixed public IPv4 makes the record easy to keep pointed at the machine, and the routed /64 gives you IPv6 for free. [source](https://docs.hosthatch.com/networking/) [docs](https://docs.hosthatch.com/networking/)
- **Outbound network** (yes): 1–20 TB, then 5 Mbps. Each plan includes 1–20 TB a month with inbound and outbound counted together, reset on the 1st of the calendar month; APAC allowances are lower (500 GB on the 2 GB plan in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney and Singapore). When the allowance is used the server is rate-limited to 5 Mbps rather than billed automatically; more transfer is $4 per TB through support. Firewall groups can be created with an egress direction, so you can allow only named destinations or block outbound entirely. The primary IPv4 is static for the life of the server, and BYOIP with BGP is available. [source](https://hosthatch.com/terms-of-service) [docs](https://docs.hosthatch.com/networking/#bandwidth-usage)
- **Keys and secrets** (partly): Read-only API keys; no vault. API keys are created on the profile page, can be read-only, can be given an expiry date and are revoked when the password changes. A key is not limited to one project: it carries your access to every project you belong to, and project roles (member, admin, owner) decide what it may do there. SSH keys are stored per project and installed at order. There is no secrets manager and no request-signing proxy, so a credential the agent needs sits in a file the agent can read. [source](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/authentication/) [docs](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/authentication/)
- **Ways to drive it** (yes): Panel + REST API. The API at console.hosthatch.com/api/v1 covers projects, servers, power actions, reinstall, root-password reset, snapshots, ISOs, firewalls, SSH keys, reverse DNS and orders, with idempotency keys, stable error codes, read-only keys and an OpenAPI document. There is no official CLI, Python or TypeScript SDK, no MCP server, and no PTY or file-transfer endpoint. Cloud-init user data is documented but answers feature_unavailable, and ISO upload through the API is not available yet (the panel can upload one). [source](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/) [docs](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/)
- **Built-in agents** (no): None. The order flow offers Linux distribution images and your own ISO, nothing else. There is no Hermes, OpenClaw, n8n or Docker template, no coding agent in any image, no prompt endpoint, no hosted browser and no managed desktop. A graphical desktop can be installed from an ISO and watched through the VNC console, but that is your install, not a product. [source](https://hosthatch.com/features) [docs](https://hosthatch.com/features#deployment)
- **Teams and accounts** (partly): Projects, 3 roles; no SSO. Servers, snapshots, keys, firewalls, ISOs and orders live in projects, and each person has one of three roles in each project; the project owner's account credit pays for every order. Read-only API keys and password-plus-2FA sign-in exist. What is missing for a company: SAML or OIDC single sign-on, an audit log of who changed what, and any account-wide cap that stops another server being ordered. [source](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/projects-and-roles/) [docs](https://docs.hosthatch.com/api/projects-and-roles/)
- **Billing models** (partly): $4–$69 a month. One prepaid plan per server, $4 to $69 a month for compute and $5 to $38 for storage. The terms invoice monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually, but there is no hourly or per-second rate and no cheaper stopped rate. The published monthly price is used in this guide because the checkout's longer-term prices are behind the login. Promotional plans sold through LowEndTalk are annual or three-year prepay only, limited stock, non-refundable and slower to set up. [source](https://hosthatch.com/terms-of-service) [docs](https://hosthatch.com/terms-of-service)
- **Trials and free tiers** (no): None; 7-day refund. No free plan, trial credit or free sandbox hours appear on the product page, the signup page or the terms. The only safety net is a 7-day money-back guarantee that requires a valid reason caused by HostHatch and evidence in a ticket; used resources may be deducted, and upgrades, setup fees and all non-VPS services are excluded. The payment methods accepted at signup are not published. [source](https://hosthatch.com/terms-of-service) [docs](https://hosthatch.com/terms-of-service#refund-policy)
- **The company** (partly): LLC since 2011; no SLA. HostHatch LLC has traded since around 2011, is privately funded, runs its own equipment and its own ARIN-registered network (AS63473), and publishes a status page (99.994% over 90 days on 2026-11-04) and a GDPR DPA. It publishes no SLA: the terms contain no uptime percentage or credit schedule, only a pro-rata refund for an interruption caused solely by its breach of warranty. Support is by ticket, its own promotional post warns that replies can take days on promotional plans, Trustpilot showed 2.7 from 93 reviews, and there is no SOC 2 report or ISO 27001 certificate on the site. ## Usability

- Dashboard: The in-house Peregrine panel at console.hosthatch.com covers ordering, power, reinstall, snapshots, firewalls, ISO upload and mount, SSH keys, reverse DNS and a VNC or serial console. Projects group servers and people, and the owner's account credit pays for orders.
- Without code: No. The panel removes the API, not the terminal: there is no Hermes, OpenClaw, n8n or Docker template, no application catalogue and no prompt box, so every workload is an SSH install.
- Signup: An email address and a password of at least 12 characters, with the terms accepted, at console.hosthatch.com/signup. The payment method and any identity check are not shown before the account exists.
- Docs: docs.hosthatch.com is new and genuinely useful: every API endpoint, an OpenAPI document, a quickstart, an llms.txt and network configuration guides. The marketing site is less reliable — location pages still contain lorem ipsum, the benchmarks page is dated July 2017, and the features page still lists snapshots, backups, block storage and the API as 'upcoming' in 2023.
- Trips people up: The product page says 'dedicated CPU allocations', but the 2, 4 and 8 GB plans are labelled 'fair share' and only the 12 GB plan and above include a dedicated core.
- Trips people up: A stopped server keeps billing; there is no pause and no cheaper stopped rate.
- Trips people up: The bandwidth allowance is a hard ceiling with a 5 Mbps throttle, not an automatic overage; extra transfer is $4 per TB through support.
- Trips people up: Outbound TCP port 25 is blocked by default and needs a justification to unblock.
- Trips people up: The acceptable-use policy bans cryptocurrency mining and 'any CPU, disk or network abusing software', with exceptions only for plans with dedicated CPU.
- Trips people up: An unpaid invoice is suspended two days after the due date and terminated with data wiped after five; a chargeback suspends the whole account.
- Trips people up: Promotional plans bought through LowEndTalk are annual-only, non-refundable, can take 10 working days to set up and sit in a slower support queue.

## Company

- Legal entity: HostHatch LLC, 4830 West Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, FL 33609, United States. The terms are governed by United States law. [source](https://hosthatch.com/contact)
- Founded: 2011, according to VPSBenchmarks; the company marked 15 years in business in April 2026 and its own copy says it started 'over a decade ago'. [source](https://www.vpsbenchmarks.com/hosters/hosthatch)
- Own hardware and network: Own equipment in 16 data centres, with its own ARIN-allocated network AS63473. [source](https://hosthatch.com/company)
- Funding: Privately funded, with no external investors, according to its homepage. [source](https://hosthatch.com/)
- Network registration: AS63473 is registered to HostHatch, LLC under ARIN (registered 14 April 2015) and originates 86 IPv4 and 19 IPv6 prefixes. [source](https://bgp.tools/as/63473)
- Support: Tickets in the client area for existing customers, with department email addresses for sales, billing, abuse and support; no phone or live chat. [source](https://hosthatch.com/contact)
- Uptime promise: No SLA and no uptime percentage in the terms. The only remedy is a pro-rata refund of the monthly fee for an interruption caused solely by HostHatch's breach of its warranty, calculated against a 720-hour month. [source](https://hosthatch.com/terms-of-service)
- Public status: A public status page (UptimeRobot) showed 99.994% overall over the last 90 days on 2026-11-04, with New York down for 31 minutes on 30 October and 6 minutes on 31 October. [source](https://status.hosthatch.com)
- Public rating: Trustpilot showed a 2.7 average from 93 reviews on 2026-11-04, a small and self-selected sample. [source](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/hosthatch.com)

## Caveats

- **The price cycle behind the monthly figure is not public** (open): The product page labels every plan '/ month' and the terms allow monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual invoicing, but the checkout's price for each cycle is behind the login. This listing uses the published monthly list price. If that figure is an annual-equivalent, a monthly-billed server costs more than the A/B/C totals here.
- **The number of locations is stated three ways** (contradiction): The product page says '16 edge locations', the company page says equipment in '16 data centers', the documentation matrix lists 14 cities, and the status page monitors 13 networks. Madrid, Milan and Warsaw appear in the site's own product data but not in the docs matrix; Seoul appears in the docs matrix but not in the product data. Check the order form for the location you need.
- **No SLA** (open): The terms contain no uptime percentage and no service-credit schedule. The only remedy is a pro-rata refund for an interruption caused solely by HostHatch's breach of warranty, and the status page measures regional network reachability rather than individual nodes.
- **The features page is years out of date** (open): It still presents snapshots, backups, block storage and a user API as 'Upcoming Features' with 2023 dates. Snapshots and the API now exist and are documented; backups and block storage appear nowhere in the current docs, API or panel. Do not read that page as a product list.
- **Support is ticket-only and third parties report slow replies** (open): HostHatch's contact page routes customers to tickets, and its own April 2026 promotional post says support on promotional plans 'can take several days to resolve issues'. Treat responsiveness as a risk for production work; this listing did not test it.
- **Fair-share CPU on the cheap plans** (open): The entry plans are 'fair share' and the acceptable-use policy bans 'any CPU, disk or network abusing software'. A sustained 50%-busy agent on the $4 or $6 plan is not a dedicated-core workload, and HostHatch does not publish where the fair-share line is.
- **VAT and payment methods are not stated** (open): Prices are shown in USD with no tax note. The privacy policy says card data is held by Stripe, but the signup page does not list accepted methods or whether VAT is added, so a private EU buyer should confirm the gross price before ordering.
