# Morph

> Full VMs with memory-and-disk snapshots, branched into parallel copies, billed in MCUs.

**Short answer:** One always-on personal agent (2 vCPU / 4 GiB / 20 GiB) costs about $63.00 a month here, the 8th cheapest of the 12 providers that run it as described. The AI model adds about $14.70 a month on top (GLM 5.3, 30 requests a day at 40k tokens each, median zero-retention price; from $6.84 at the cheapest host). Fits well: Full VMs with Docker-in-Docker, systemd, root and FUSE, for a workload that needs a normal server.

Morph Cloud sells devboxes and lower-level instances: full virtual machines that can run Docker-in-Docker, a local Kubernetes cluster or a self-hosted database.
Its distinctive primitive is the snapshot: an immutable copy of memory and disk that can boot a new instance with running processes, or branch into many copies for fan-out.

**Who it is for:** Teams running parallel agent environments, RL rollouts or test fan-out, and developers who want a cloud devbox with a dashboard.

**Isolation:** Full virtual machine, with Docker-in-Docker, systemd and root documented. FUSE is available; nested virtualisation and other guest operating systems are experimental.

**Sizes and regions:** Resources are chosen at creation: vCPU, memory and disk size. No complete size catalogue, GPU statement, region list or data-residency commitment is published.

## How it charges

- model: Prepaid MCUs with optional monthly plans that include an allocation.
- meter: One MCU covers 1 vCPU-hour, 4 GB RAM-hours, 16 GB disk-hours or 5 TB snapshot-hours. The rate is the maximum of those dimensions, at $0.05 per MCU-hour.
- stopped: A paused instance bills only for the snapshot taken. A stopped instance is deleted, so its own disk is not a cheap parked state.
- planFee: Developer $0, Team $40 and Scale $250 a month, including 0, 1,000 and 7,500 MCUs.
- minimum: No published minimum duration. The signup docs promise 300 free compute hours a month; the pricing page shows 0 MCUs and asks you to buy.

Compute units per hour: the largest of vCPU, RAM ÷ 4 and disk ÷ 16, at $0.05 each.
- Between sessions the instance is paused: it bills only for its snapshot. A stopped instance is deleted.
- Live pages disagree on the free tier: 0 units on the pricing page, 300 units in the plans doc, 300 compute hours on the sign-up page. None is subtracted.

## Monthly cost for each preset workload

- A personal agent that stays on (Hermes, OpenClaw): $63.00
- A coding agent for one developer: $32.27
- A code interpreter inside your product: $33.33
- A browser agent for a small team: $375.00
- Self-hosted n8n for a small team: $63.00
- A Discord or Slack bot for one server: $36.50
- Claude Code for a team of five: $151.37
- A scraper that runs four times a day: $1.00
- Your own remote MCP server: $36.50
- A: 1,000 short tasks: $16.67
- B: one always-on box: $136.00
- C: three hours a day: $9.15

## Fits well

- Full VMs with Docker-in-Docker, systemd, root and FUSE, for a workload that needs a normal server.
- Snapshots of memory and disk that branch into several running instances.
- A configurable machine: vCPU, memory and disk are chosen at creation rather than picked from a menu.

## Fits badly

- A buyer who needs published regions, GPU options, maximum sizes or an SLA.
- An attached block volume: Morph Volumes is S3-compatible object storage behind a gateway.
- A compliance review that expects a SOC 2 naming Morph Labs, Inc.

## Features

- **Isolation** (yes): Full VM; Docker-in-Docker. Full VMs with Docker-in-Docker, systemd, root and FUSE. Nested virtualisation and other guest operating systems are experimental. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/devboxes/getting-started) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/devboxes/getting-started)
- **Sizes and regions** (partly): Not published. vCPU, memory and disk are chosen at creation, with no fixed catalogue. Maximum CPU, RAM and disk per VM, GPU availability, architecture, host locations and selectable regions are not published. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/instances/creating-snapshot) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/instances/creating-snapshot)
- **Lifecycle** (partly): Pause: RAM + disk. Pause snapshots memory and disk and suspends the VM; stop releases the instance and deletes it. Booting a snapshot is a cold boot, while starting one restores memory. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/instances/pause-resume) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/instances/basic-lifecycle)
- **Snapshots and forks** (yes): RAM + disk; branches. Snapshots are immutable copies of memory and disk; a branch creates several running instances from one snapshot. Starting a snapshot restores memory, while booting it is a cold boot. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/instances/creating-snapshot) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/instances/branch)
- **Storage** (partly): S3 volumes, not a disk. The instance disk holds the machine, and Morph Volumes is separate S3-compatible object storage reached through a gateway and CLI, not an attached block disk. EFS is a third option. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/volumes/getting-started) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/volumes/getting-started)
- **Idle and waking** (partly): Not published. Devboxes scale to zero after inactivity, preserving memory and application state, and wake on an HTTP or SSH request. Instance TTL is a duration after which an instance stops or pauses. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/devboxes/getting-started) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/examples/auto-scale-agent-workspaces)
- **Reaching it** (partly): Not published. An instance can expose an HTTP service through the API. Default authentication and raw TCP support are not published. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/api-reference/expose-http-service-instance-instance-id-http-post) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/instances/http-services)
- **Custom domains** (not-published): Not published. No custom-domain feature appears in the documentation, API or terms. An HTTP service can be exposed, but it is served on a provider hostname. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/instances/http-services)
- **Outbound network** (not-published): Charged, no rate. Egress is a chargeable component in the terms, but no per-GB rate, allowlist, static IP or filtering is published. Do not assume egress is free. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/web/legal/terms-of-service)
- **Keys and secrets** (partly): Not published. Devbox templates integrate a secrets manager, and agent tokens carry scoped secret permissions. Whether a proxy keeps values out of the VM is not published. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/devboxes/getting-started) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/devboxes/agent-tokens)
- **Ways to drive it** (partly): Yes, dashboard. SDKs and a CLI, SSH, a devbox API, a configurable remote desktop, and a tmux API for agents. No first-party MCP server or webhooks are documented. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/devboxes/getting-started) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/cli)
- **Built-in agents** (partly): None; tmux API. A full tmux API lets you drive Claude Code or Codex programmatically, but no agent is preinstalled and no agent-run API exists. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/devboxes/getting-started)
- **Teams and accounts** (partly): Not published. Devboxes are shareable to anyone in the organisation, and an SSH-key audit endpoint exists. SSO, hard spend caps and comprehensive audit coverage are not published. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/devboxes/getting-started) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/devboxes/sharing-and-collaboration)
- **Billing models** (partly): $0.05/MCU-hour. MCUs where the rate is the largest resource dimension: 1 vCPU-hour, 4 GB RAM-hours, 16 GB disk-hours or 5 TB snapshot-hours, at $0.05 per MCU-hour. Plans include MCU allocations. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/web/subscribe) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/setup/plans)
- **Trials and free tiers** (partly): 300 h/month claimed. Signup docs promise 300 free compute hours a month on the $0 Developer plan; the pricing page lists 0 MCUs and says to purchase MCUs. An invite is mentioned. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/setup/signing-up) [docs](https://cloud.morph.so/docs/documentation/setup/plans)
- **The company** (partly): Morph Labs, Inc.; no SOC 2. Morph Labs, Inc., San Francisco; founded 2023 by Jesse Han. Funding is contradictory: one third-party source reports a $5.75M Khosla-led seed, another says no funding was raised. Status page reports 100% for Morph Cloud API over 90 days, provider-reported. No numeric SLA; a separate order SLA would control. No verified SOC 2 for Morph Labs; the Delve portal belongs to AutoInfra, a different company. Prices change with 30 days' notice, or 60 days if cumulative increases exceed 15% in 12 months; month-to-month termination is effective next billing cycle; deletion after cancellation not published. ## Usability

- Dashboard: A devbox dashboard can create a machine from a template or snapshot and open it in VS Code.
- Without code: A devbox can be created without API code, but setup asks for an SDK or CLI and an API key.
- Signup: An invite is mentioned in the signup docs; card requirement and waitlist status are not published.
- Docs: Documentation covers devboxes, instances, snapshots, volumes and agent tokens. No independent status page was verified.
- Trips people up: Stop deletes the instance; pause is the state-preserving action.
- Trips people up: Booting a snapshot is a cold boot; starting it restores memory.
- Trips people up: Volumes are S3-compatible object storage, not an attached block disk.
- Trips people up: The free-credit promise contradicts the pricing page.

## Company

- Legal entity: Morph Labs, Inc., at a San Francisco address. The state of incorporation is not published. [source](https://cloud.morph.so/web/legal/terms-of-service)
- Founded: 2023, by Jesse Han, per Tracxn. Christian Szegedy is reported as chief scientist and a seed investor. [source](https://tracxn.com/d/companies/morph-labs/__8ZZWlPNWnRct4CJf-JJjU940HzzVxh1CEZxBQBG6tXg)
- Funding: Disputed: one source reports a $5.75M Khosla-led seed, another says no funding has been raised. [source](https://tracxn.com/d/companies/morph-labs/__8ZZWlPNWnRct4CJf-JJjU940HzzVxh1CEZxBQBG6tXg)
- Headcount: About 9–11, an aggregator estimate for 2026. No company-confirmed figure. [source](https://www.rl-list.com/vendors/morph)
- Status and SLA: Status page reports 100% for the Cloud API over its 90-day chart. No numeric SLA is published. [source](https://status.cloud.morph.so/)
- Certification: No verified SOC 2 for Morph Labs, Inc. The Delve trust portal sometimes cited for it belongs to AutoInfra. [source](https://trust.delve.co/morph)

## Caveats

- **Free credit is described two ways** (contradiction): Signup docs promise 300 free compute hours a month on the $0 Developer plan; the pricing page lists 0 MCUs and says to purchase MCUs to use compute.
- **Stop deletes the instance** (open): The stop API releases the instance and its resources; only a separately retained snapshot survives.
- **Snapshot billing basis is unpublished** (open): Whether snapshots bill allocated or stored bytes, and how compression and deduplication count, is not stated.
- **Volumes are object storage** (open): Morph Volumes is an S3-compatible product accessed through a gateway and CLI, distinct from an attached disk or EFS mount.
- **No published region, GPU or architecture list** (open): Host locations, data residency and GPU availability were not confirmed in primary material.
